Meet Shayz Enrique
Shayz Enrique is a celebrity hair stylist, experienced in editorial, runway, as well as TV and film styling, and has been establishing his career for the past seventeen years.
Shayz has done some incredible work for well known publications and brands such as Vogue, The New Yorker and Fenty Beauty (which was also a secret that he struggled to keep ahead of their launch this year), and he’s worked with the likes of celebrities such as Winnie Harlow, Deto Black and many more.
In today’s episode, we speak to Shayz about how he has established himself in the field, the challenges he’s faced — and how he overcame them — as well as what’s next in his career.

Some takeaways
For stylists 💇🏾♀️
A lot of the time, stylists within the community are pit against each other (when Shayz believes they should actually be working closely together), and there's plenty of opportunity for people to both make money and build their reputation.
While there's a lot of instant gratification and Instagram fame around the hair industry, don't expect an elevator up to the top. As a stylist, be prepared to do the work, put in the hours and accept that your journey will vary to other people's. Take your time, learn your craft and work your way up to the top.
Shayz went to New York with $200 in his pocket and sofa surfed for some time, fighting the urge to return back home where he knew he could be comfortable. This is a normal part of the journey and, while it's not easy or for everyone, it's part of your development within the industry.
Surround yourself with good people who believe in your ability and are prepared to challenge you (in order to be better). Negativity will likely make you shrink, not grow. But lack of accountability will also dull your light.
