Some takeaways
For stylists 💇🏾♀️
One DM quickly led to Dhairius having a model and Beyonce's photographer in his living room doing a shoot in the middle of the pandemic. In order to make moves, sometimes you have to ask and remember that the worst someone can do is say no.
It can be tough working with clients that have experienced trauma at the hands of another stylist, but the best thing you can do is listen to them as much as possible, take your time and reassure your client as much as possible. Even someone as experienced as Dhairius has been challenged by clients that have been through trauma. Don’t take it personally (it probably has nothing to do with you), but it is important that you listen to understand and bear with them.
Dhairius was the first stylist to be featured in Beyonce's Cecred campaign and that was a significant milestone in his career. Shortly after, he was drafted into Rhianna’s campaign for Fenty Hair.
The industry is very challenging to get into and stay in once you get here. You have to find ways to protect your peace, and have a very clear understanding of what you need to gain from each job and from your career in general. Take the time to decide on what you want to gain from the industry before jumping into it with both feet, this will set you up for success.
